BEYOND WORSHIP

Sunday School

Adult Sunday school meets in the fellowship hall Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. The class selects a book of the Bible for an in-depth review and study. Various members act as our facilitator for a verse by verse study and discussion. The facilitator uses multiple commentaries in order to bring meaningful understandings. Members study the assigned chapter and come ready for discussion. This is an opportunity for everyone to share their study and what has been revealed to each through study and the Holy Spirit. We welcome all, so please join us as we share the study of God’s Holy Word.

Spiritual Support Group

The Spiritual Support Group meets every Tuesday from 10-11 AM.  The Pastor facilitates an often lively and spiritual discussion around some portion of Scripture and its practical application to our lives. Class participation is encouraged, but not necessary if you just like to listen. We grow spiritually from hearing other people’s faith stories.

Please come join us!

Choir and Bells

We express our love for God in many different ways. One of those ways is through music. At Bright Hope Laurel UMC, we have an active music program.

Chancel Choir – Unlike other churches, Chancel Choir is in session during the Summer months beginning rehearsals in June and singing for Sunday Services through September.

Bell Choir – We are also privileged to have a year-round 3-octave Bell Choir that also plays for services.

These choirs, like all choirs, are a community within a community that share their love of music with each other and the congregation. But the love they share isn’t just for music, it is for God and each other.

We welcome you to come join us at Bright Hope Laurel!

Mens Group

The BHLUMC Men’s Club meets for breakfast at church at 7:46 am on the first Sunday of each month. Members take turns preparing a full country breakfast consisting of bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, grits, biscuits and sausage gravy. After breakfast, a business meeting is held to discuss happenings in the club and church. We close with a devotion and prayer. Donations are collected to support the Club’s activities which include: providing the needy with heating fuel (wood & oil), electricity or other needs; collecting items to be sold during the rummage sale of the Fall Apple Butter Festival; assisting the church’s Food Panty volunteers delivering food to the needy every other Saturday; and sponsoring a church outing for dinner at a nearby restaurant around Valentine’s Day. A sub-group called God’s Guys, in memory of Ed Ponder, gather on one Saturday morning a month to perform heavy yard work for the elderly or widows. Come join us for fellowship
and service.

Vacation
Bible School

Our church provides an opportunity for community children and our church children to attend Vacation Bible School during the summer. We have a excellent team of volunteers who provide leadership for the children. We have Bible stories, crafts, games, music and snacks all coordinated around the theme for the program. This is a one day event on a Saturday. Everyone is welcome.
